Barry Leon Lunt, born March 12, 1958 in Plattsburgh, New York passed away, peacefully, with family by his side, music in his soul, and love in his heart at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on Monday morning, June 4, 2012.

Barry’s family moved to Santa Barbara from New York when he was a young teen. He graduated from Santa Barbara High School and later found his passion for computer science at UC Santa Cruz where he made many lifelong friends and met his wife, Donna West.

After countless adventures throughout northern California and beyond, the two returned to settle in Barry’s hometown of Santa Barbara where they raised their three children. Barry worked as a software engineer for several companies including ACC/Ericsson and most recently held the position of Vice President of Engineering at Santa Barbara Infrared. Many young engineers considered Barry to be their mentor and inspiration.

Barry’s love of life and adventure will forever be remembered by his family and friends. Many remember fond times spent with him hiking, surfing, skiing, golfing (argh!), sailing, camping and enjoying concerts.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Morgan, Aaron, and Emily; brother, Andrew (Eve); sisters, Paula (Richard), Michelle (K.C.) and Taylor; and father, Leon (Joyce). Barry’s mother, Martha Phenix (Ted) predeceased him.

A memorial service is planned for August. Friends may contact the family for details.

We would like to thank the incredible people who work at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, especially the amazing staff on “6 Central” for their loving care over the years, Hospice of Santa Barbara, Visiting Nurses & Coram Infusion Services. Very special thanks go to Doctors Margaret Ray and John Petrini, the team whose tireless care and devotion to Barry was truly beyond compare… and always based on love.

In Barry’s memory, please simply keep giving the “love…love…love…” and kindness we’ve received in recent times; that’s the greatest legacy. <3
