Women’s Choice(s)

Book Signing by Undecided Authors Shannon and Barbara Kelley

Independent columnist Shannon Kelley and her mother, Barbara Kelley, will read from their new book, Undecided, which takes a look at the choices today’s women have thanks to the success of the Women’s Movement—and the unintended consequences of having those choices, including analysis paralysis, the grass-is-greener syndrome, and angst over the road not traveled. The project was conceived after an op-ed that Barbara, a journalism professor at Santa Clara University, wrote about an epidemic of dissatisfaction and a feeling of being overwhelmed she’d noticed in her students.

“The piece got a monstrous response,” Shannon said, “and one day over a long hike and several cocktails”—or as Barbara succinctly put it, “sweat and booze”—”I convinced my mom that the subject was entirely too juicy to be contained in 800 words.” The event is Wednesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at Chaucer’s Bookstore (3321 State St.).
