Saint Motel’s debut album, Voyeur, has the confidence of an encore track and just enough earnestness to confirm that this is, indeed, the band’s first full-length work. Consistently bright with samplings of brass horns and clean with electronic flourishes, Saint Motel’s sound is welcoming of any musical embellishing that will fit within a four-minute track. Using the tools of dance-pop, frontman A/J Jackson’s vocals rise to falsetto for dramatic effect and drop back into a propulsive belt to carry out many of the record’s anthemic choruses. With a penchant for verse-chorus-verse structures, it’s easy to see Saint Motel as just another decorated pop act, but as one of their tracks says, “He’s not just a man, so much more, he’s better.” In fact, Saint Motel is much more than their dreamy indie dance-pop trappings. With melodies that ring with joy and ride a consistently upbeat rhythm, the band goes that extra mile to make each lyric inspiring and each note sound bright and glorious. This is a young band working hard to create catchy music that’s meticulously polished, and it’s only a matter of time before the fans start jumping on board en masse.
