Re: The November 18 letter “Bye Bye PBS.”

We have been made aware that KCET is leaving the PBS network on January 1, 2011. This is a decision made independently by KCET without Cox Communications input or consideration. At the same time, Cox is dedicated to ensuring our customers the highest quality programming from PBS and other networks; we certainly understand the importance and value of PBS programming.

On January 1, 2011, KOCE will be providing the full PBS line-up. Until then, KCET will remain the primary station in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, through December 31, 2010.

For viewers in Santa Barbara, KOCE will be available on Cox Communications beginning January 1, 2011 and will provide the full PBS program lineup. KOCE is also pursuing possible over the air transmission of programming to the Santa Barbara area in the future.

We are pleased to know that there will be a seamless transition in programming from KCET to KOCE and that Santa Barbara Cox Communications customers will not go one day without PBS programming.—Sarah Clark

As a follow-up to my letter published November 18 regarding the termination of PBS programming on KCET, I am pleased to report that Ms. Anne Bentley, vice president of corporate communications at PBS, has written to me that beginning January 1, 2011, station KOCE (Orange County) will be available for viewers in Santa Barbara on Cox Communications and “will air the full range of high-quality PBS content.” She adds that KOCE is pursuing possible over-the-air transmission of programming to the Santa Barbara area in the future.

Those of us who now watch PBS programs on KCET should be very gratified with this development.—Mary Walsh
