This is one of Santa Barbara's earliest Protestant churches. It's kind of tucked away on Chapala, so it's easy to miss as you're driving by. It's a great denomination with a refreshing traditional, yet informal and relaxed, Protestant service. When many Christian churches are cutting back on communion (some down to once a month), SBFCC has communion every Sunday, and it is a central part of the service. Many of the congregation have been members all, or most, of their lives, but you would never know it because that aren't the slightest bit cliquish. It's a little hard to gauge how liberal/conservative this church is because the denomination focuses more on the basic ideas that all Christians believe in, and isn't hung up on doctrine in the least. Definitely no pontificating or holier-than-thou going on here. Highly recommended. At least give it a try.

Those invoking Karma as an explanation for the damage done to one of Santa Barbara's cultural and scientific jewels should remember that it goes both ways. From what I can tell, members of the Mission Canyon Association suffered far greater losses from this fire than did the Garden. In this case, Karma was quite slow in manifesting itself - after years of obstructionism and wasted resources.
