Conejo Road

Bald, black hills
punctuated
with blackened trunks,
nature's exclamation points,
screams of horror,
at unstoppable
devastation.
Ashes of revelry -
extinguished bonfire
gone wrong,
sundowner winds
reigniting embers
creating
living, lavalike creatures
liquiding
down canyons,
flowing up hills,
defying gravity,
ravenous,
insatiable,
voraciously consuming,
destroying,
removing
traces of life,
leaving
paint-seared-off vehicles
sitting on axles,
brick chimneys,
debris,
hints of home.
No conejo refuges
on Conejo Road,
only traumatized
revelers, nature,
homelessowners.
