Near and Far Getaways

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." -St. Augustine of Hippo

A bit judgmental, perhaps, but we at The Independent tend to
agree with the sentiment that traveling is a good thing. Therefore,
we are in the process of expanding our travel coverage — in print
and online at independent.com — to include more features, helpful
information about popular destinations, and other travel tips we
hope you’ll find useful.

To kick off our extended travel coverage of near and far
getaways, we have stories about wintering in Vancouver by Michelle
Drown; a weekend of music and good eats in Los Angeles by Matt
Kettmann; and a Mardi Gras kick off in New Orleans by Barney
Brantingham. So keep an eye on The Indy for information on cool,
unique, and surprising places to go on your next trip.

Oh, and remember: When preparing to travel, lay out all your
outfits and all your money. Then pack half the clothes and twice
the cash. Bon voyage!
