News-Press No-Show at Forum Discussion

A Sunday town hall meeting focusing on the “situation” at the Santa Barbara News-Press yielded stories from fired reporters and a big “no comment” from NP higher-ups.

Another Take on Spring Break

Some students will be soaking up the rays and probably far too many mai tais in some subtropical paradise during spring break, but a handful of Alternative Spring Breakers are donating their time and effort to rebuilding still-Katrina-torn New Orleans for the next couple weeks through Isla Vista’s Hillel.

Ty Warner Deals His Kona Village

I couldn’t believe the rumor going around town, that Ty Warner has sold his paradise-like Kona Village Resort on Hawaii’s Big Island. Would Ty really sell his prized luxury enclave of thatched-roof bungalows (pictured), a virtual South Seas island village on a white-sand beach with a palm-shaded lagoon?

Near Naked Ambush at the Gym

Thanks so much to those of you who emailed me and commented with your blind date disaster stories! It was highly entertaining, and certainly made me feel like a lot less of a failure in the first-date-department. Also, I was excited to see that a (hot!) real-live relationship expert has popped up and offered to share some advice on how to succeed in the dating game.

Steaks at Carpinteria’s The Palms

But come summer, all bets are off with the Bowl’s late but killer lineup, which already includes shows by Norah Jones, Gwen Stefani, and Marco Antonio Sol-s and is rumored have Incubus, Snow Patrol, Diana Krall, 311, and Reggae Sunsplash waiting in the wings.

Nine Wineries and Counting

One of my favorite things to do on a sleepy Sunday morning is take a drive to a place that puts me in the mood to relax and mentally prepare for the coming work week. I love driving through the Santa Maria Valley, particularly through the countryside, dotted as it is with agricultural crops, farmhouses, and vineyards.

Spring Arts Preview- Jazz

For Santa Barbara jazz fans, the not-so-good news is the official jazz concert season-the series at both the Lobero Theatre and Campbell Hall-is pretty much over. The good news is that jazz continues to slip between the cracks at other venues in town during the next few months, before the summer “chill. “
