Parents beware: prom night’s not over yet. For ten high school couples entered in the Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest, the fun hasn’t stopped. Duck® duct tape holds an annual scholarship contest daring prom-goers to create a complete outfit out of duct tape. Entries are judged on creativity, workmanship, visual appeal, accessories, and amount of duct tape used. This year, over 360 students entered the contest, with the top ten finalists chosen by “the Duct Tape guys” – Jim and Tim – and duct tape guru, Todd Scott. Months of sticky effort went into creating vibrant formalwear for the famed night, and contestants’ hard work has the potential to really pay off.
This year, for the first time in the contest’s history, the top three couples will be chosen by the public. Vote for your favorite outfit online at stuckatprom.com and decide who should receive the scholarship money. The first place couple receives $3,000 individually, with the same amount awarded to the host school. Second place follows with $2,000 and third place with $1,000, both distributed in the same manner.
The Stuck at Prom® contest offers an inexpensive and creative alternative to generic prom attire, not to mention plenty of laughter and a challenge to boot. Additionally, Duck® offers 20 colors of tape ranging from traditional silver to fluorescent pink, including several patterns like camouflage and chrome. The scholarship contest continues to support creativity, while it publicizes the Duck® product. Just last year, students from 48 states and three Canadian provinces sent in their pieces. The previous first place winner was even crowned Prom Queen at her high school. Maybe her outfit had something to do with it, since five months of designing with sticky tape certainly shows a certain commitment to fashion. Try finding that kind of style in a department store.
