Veeco Metrology, Inc. of Santa Barbara, laid off about 10 percent of its 300-employee Santa Barbara workforce in late June, according to workers. Veeco Metrology is one of the offices of Veeco Instruments, Inc., which produces nano-scale devices for biotechnology and other uses. On June 15, Veeco released a less expensive version of its atomic-scanning microscope; on July 27, Veeco will distribute its second-quarter financial results.
