Goleta Water District to Flush Mains

Nighttime Work May Cause Discolored Tap Water

Fri Apr 18, 2008 | 12:31pm

According to a notification by the Goleta Water District today, customers who are concerned about a slight discoloration and lower pressure of their tap water have nothing to fear. In order to clear sediments which may have accumulated in the mains over the years, the District will be flushing them by opening fire hydrants between 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. from the night of Sunday, April 20th to the morning of Friday, April 25th. This will increase water velocity through the mains, thereby removing the sediments. These sediments could otherwise cause discoloration of the water at the tap when water use is heavy. The District has stated that the water is safe, but that due to the discoloration caused by flushing the lines, it is suggested that customers not do laundry or regenerate water softeners during the scheduled flush times, which will be at night.
