Isla Vista residents and friends gathered at Anisq’Oyo’ Park on Saturday, May 31 for a day filled with music, sunshine, and eccentric festivities. Celebrating Chilla Vista, the third installment of the annual all-day festival, hundreds of people gathered on the lawn to enjoy their surroundings. Meant to unite IV, create a sense of community, and promote awareness of current events, Chilla Vista welcomed people of all ages, each dressed uniquely and all accepting of each other.
Many tents and booths were set up in the surrounding lawn area. Local shops brought their crafts to sell to the crowd, tables were set up to inspire people to vote for certain district supervisors in the upcoming elections, and other booths were meant for educational purposes, such as the uses of hemp. There was also a painting station where people could express their beliefs and personalities through their artwork.
Many bands came out to play, including: Pacific Standard, Free Wieners, The Big Frog, Other Nature, Tempo No Tempo, Boombox Orchestra, Velorio, The Growlers, Roots Covenant, and The Devil Makes 3. The crowd enjoyed the music, with many people dancing all over the lawn, as well as the dance area in the front.
A day filled with nothing but acceptance from others, music, dancing, and a feeling of community, Chilla Vista proved that for one day, everyone can be friends.
