Midnight Juggernauts
Dystopia
Astralwerks
This hipster-friendly album comes to us from France, and imports are, in and of themselves, undeniably cool. But beyond that, the beats of this indie-meets-psychedelic-rock effort are hypnotic, making Dystopia stand out as one of the best engineered glam rock albums since The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack. The second track on the album, “Ending of an Era,” features exciting beats and strong yet vacant vocals. The band then shifts gears on “Into the Galaxy,” where they sing with a little more enthusiasm-and throw in a little trivia with a shout-out to Van Morrison’s famous hit “Gloria.” Calling on disco and the majority of the ’80s for inspiration, Midnight Juggernauts craft an album that would complete any dance party. Check out the hauntingly sung and fantastically dance-y “Shadows” and “Nine Lives” for a taste.
