Tue Jun 09, 2009 | 06:00am

At noon on Monday, a structure fire at a home at 119 W. Valerio was called in to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

According to Battalion Chief Jim Bryden, four engines and one ladder truck responded to the scene where heavy, dark smoke was billowing from the attic. The firefighters discovered immediately that the attic was completely ablaze. Using typical attic fire tactics, the fire crew cut ventilation holes in the roof and pulled the attack from underneath. The fire was extinguished by 12:05 p.m. No injuries were incurred to residents or firefighters. According to Bryden, the tenants of the building had just stepped out for a few minutes to go to the store and returned after the crew had responded to the fire. The cause is currently under investigation.
