School District Finds Interim Special Ed Admin

Caryl Miller Emerges From Retirement to Help Troubled Department

Still reeling from a brutal third party assessment of its special education department and the unexpected departure of two new hires to leadership positions in the aforementioned program, the Santa Barbara School District announced this week that it has hired an interim special ed administrator. Dr. Caryl Miller-a former assistant superintendent with the Hemet Unified School District and a one-time special ed executive director for Riverside County-is coming out of retirement to begin work in early August and will remain with the district through the third week of January 2010. The district is still seeking applicant for two special ed director jobs and one overarching executive director position.
