D’Angelo Bread Goes Hollywood

Bakery’s Eggs Rosé One of Best Things

Santa Barbara’s own D’Angelo Bread will appear as part of the The Best Thing I Ever Ate segment airing this Friday, March 19, at 10 p.m. on the Food Network Channel. Celebrity Iron Chef Cat Cora was seen a few months ago taping her bit for the episode, in which she orders D’Angelo’s popular Eggs Rosé dish.

A friend of the owner, Lesley Hall, watched as the Food Network crew filmed Cora ordering and eating the Eggs Rosé dish at the bakery. “It was fun to watch them trying to get the perfect angle on the food,” Hall said. She noted that the crew had began taping at 6 a.m., including footage of Cora walking to and from her car with a to-go order of Eggs Rosé. The popular dish, poached eggs on top of Kalamata olive bread with an artichoke paste, has attracted many Santa Barbarans to the restaurant and clearly has now caught the attention of the Food Network.

Hall said that she looked on as the bakery’s owner, Dietmar Eilbacher, was interviewed about his other baked goods, and the baking techniques that have made his pastries, such as the chocolate croissant and Bavarian pretzels, so popular. “It will be fun to watch and see what they end up putting in the segment,” Hall said.

The show will air a total of three times: March 19 at 10 p.m., March 20 at 1 a.m., and March 23 at 9:30 p.m. Be sure to check out the Food Network Channel this weekend to catch some local Santa Barbara flavor.
