Rumor has it that Oak Park Wading Pool is set to be closed again this summer as a cost-saving measure for Santa Barbara. As a parent of two small children, I find this devastating news. My four-year-old daughter adores this pool and was so sad last year when we discovered it wouldn’t be opening for the summer. And now, again?
I understand that as a state we are dealing with severe budget problems. But instead of closing something that provides such a wonderful service to hundreds of families in Santa Barbara, why not charge a small fee to help off-set the cost? I’ve spoken with many mothers and almost all would be willing to pay something in order to go there. What about a $20 summer pass? A pass would be a great way to collect the money up front, which would be easier on the life guards and the parents who are coming.
Please consider trying something rather than just closing it down altogether. I know I speak for many families when I say we would be extremely grateful!—April Hoffman
