Back in 2008, No Age hit the scene running with Nouns, a swift musical kick in the face, packed full with skuzzy guitars, across-the-board distortion, and enough punk attitude to scare even the most skeptical critics into submission. But with two years and plenty of acclaim under their belts, it seems No Age has opted to clean things up a bit—and the result is nothing short of enrapturing. On Everything in Between, L.A. noisemakers Dean Spunt (drums) and Randy Randall (guitars, vocals) strip things down just enough to catch our attention. Hard rockers like “Depletion” begin ever so delicately before morphing into scathing rock-outs, while fuzzy slow-burners like “Positive Amputation” turn the distortion love on its head completely, making for a fine effort that’s destined to win over the haters and please hardcore fans.
