The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians presented a check for $25,000 to Toys for Tots at the Seventh Annual Toys for Tots Benefit Concert featuring The Judds.

The donation was given on behalf of the tribe and The Judds, who performed for a sold-out audience at the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom on December 16. It is the largest gift the Central Coast Marine Corps Toys for Tots program has received this year.

“This donation is so appreciated because we have a 15 percent increase in the number of children registered for a toy this year,” said Anita Pomerantz, managing director and chief consultant for the Central Coast Marine Corp Toys for Tots. “The power of this gift can truly touch lives in a positive way and make the season special.”

The $25,000 donation will provide toys for 2,500 children this Christmas.

“During these tough economic times, it’s organizations like Toys for Tots that make such a positive difference in the lives of so many children,” said Veronica Sandoval, administrator for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation. “We are honored to support Toys for Tots.”

Since 1947, Toys for Tots has raised funds and collected toys for families in need.

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation has donated more than $13 million to hundreds of groups, organizations, and schools in the community and across the nation as part of the Chumash’s long-standing tradition of giving. The Foundation is governed by the tribe’s Business Committee.
