In the most recent edition of the Independent, the Angry Poodle Barbecue, in reference to this writer’s involvement in community affairs, notes that this included the effort to defeat a new police station some years ago, which would have cost $30 million and destroyed downtown housing. Inexplicably, apparently in criticism, the notice then goes on to read that “since then, the need for a new station has only grown greater and the costs a whole lot higher.”

For the record, the leading opponent of the proposal to build a new police station, through its editorial endorsement against the measure, was the Santa Barbara Independent.
