• Next Thursday, July 23, the Creative Women group and Think Tank Art Collective will host Montage of Mermaids, a benefit event featuring art, photography, and area talent showcases at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort (633 W. Cabrillo Blvd.). Proceeds from Mermaids will help raise funds for Girls Inc of S.B., an area nonprofit that aims to empower young women through educational and enrichment programs. The event runs from 5-7 p.m. in the hotel’s Spa del Mar; tickets are $20. Call 884-8540 for more info.

• Volunteers are needed for this year’s Solstice Festival, a three-day fest to be held from June 24-26 at Alameda Park (Sola St., between Garden and Santa Barbara sts.). Help is most needed to help sell merchandise; more opportunities will become available as the Solstice Parade approaches. Call 965-5535 or email vol@volunteerssb.com for more info.
