Just a few hours after swimming with a hammerhead shark off Anacapa Island — an especially rare encounter in the Santa Barbara Channel, and captured on video here — S.B. resident Forrest Galante had another surprise. As he and his buddies dove for spiny lobster, he came across an 11.6-pound, 70-plus-year-old specimen that he hauled on board their boat. Impressed by its size and age, Galante couldn’t bring himself to cook and eat the big sea critter, so he named it Albert Girther, brought it to the Ty Warner Sea Center for others to enjoy, and later released it.
