On this week’s Poodle Radio, Colin Marshall is joined first by Cheri Rae (at 1:00), author of an upcoming Indy cover story on dyslexia. Having struggled through a variety of challenges large and small in her dyslexic son’s education, she’s done a huge amount of research about the nature of the condition, its disadvantages as well as its advantages, and the ways successful dyslexics—some of them famous—have figured out how best to organize their lives. Colin and Cheri discuss the cognitive traits of dyslexia, her son’s own experience, and her advice to other parents who may be going through the same challenges.
Then, two well-known Santa Barbara poets visit the studio (at 30:50). Perie Longo and Glenna Luschei read their work on the air, remember their favorite experiences of their worldly poetic careers, and talk about the Santa Barbara poetry scene and how poetry has become such a deeply embedded presence in the local community. The music this week, organized as always by Poodle Radio music producer Aly Comingore, is from Primus, The Wavves, Hot Hot Heat, and the Ataris. They’re all scheduled to play S.B. soon. You can tune into Poodle Radio live every Tuesday morning from 8-9 a.m. on KCSB, 91.9 FM in Santa Barbara or on KCSB’s webcast at KCSB.org.
