When Santa Barbara City College’s Garvin Theatre was built between 1975 and 1977, it was up to par with any performing arts venue of its size. “At the time it was built, it was a state-of-the-art facility, but that means it’s state of the art for 31 years ago,” explains SBCC’s theatre arts department chair Tom Garey in this latest video for Independent.com. When the full renovation is completed, Garey promises, “It will be a 21st century theater.”

But before it closes next month for an extended remodeling period, there’s one last show: The World Goes ‘Round, a musical review starring the typical Garvin mix of professional, community, and student actors. This video also has behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage of that performance, which kicks off with preview shows on Wednesday and Thursday, October 22 and 23, and runs through November 8.
