On this week’s Poodle Radio, Colin Marshall is joined by Jerry Roberts, author of the Indy’s Capitol Letters column, which covers California state politics in a framework relevant to Santa Barbara readers. They discuss the current suite of interesting issues coming out of and political goings-on in Sacramento, certainly including but by no means limited to the 2010 gubernatorial race, where the question of whether this state is governable at all hangs in the air, where former governor Jerry Brown has made a high-profile, late-career return to the game, and where the Republicans, in Roberts’ words, are “tearing each others’ faces off.”

Then, food editor George Yatchisin drops by to give a detailed report on the results of the Indy’s first ever Sizzling Summer BBQ Contest. Yatchisin was involved in every step of the process, and thus gives his impressions about the pool of entries as a whole, the difference between barbecuing pros and barbecuing amateurs, the skill needed to remember what it was like judging the cocktail segment of the contest and what might be on the horizon for next year’s competition.

You can tune into Poodle Radio live every Tuesday morning from 8-9 a.m. on KCSB, 91.9 FM in Santa Barbara or on KCSB’s webcast at KCSB.org. During the show, don’t forget to phone your questions, comments or suggestions to the studio line at 893-2424 or e-mail them to colin@independent.com.
