The Peace Caravan Project: Journey Along the Silk Road Opening Reception

for work by artist Marla Mossman

When: Thursday, April 10, 2008, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Karpeles Manuscript Library, 21 W. Anapamu St., Santa Barbara

Cost: Free

Age limit: Not available

Categories: Art (opening)

Description: The initiative of the project is to help develop worldwide peace by depicting photographs that illustrate a culture of peace from Istanbul, Turkey to X'ian, China along the ancient Silk Road. This exhibition is a selection of photographs documenting the segment of the journey from Istanbul to Jerusalem, retracing the historical origins of the three great religions. The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is the fiscal sponsor of the Peace Caravan Project.

The Peace Caravan Project follows Mossman's solo journey, documenting the places of historical and religious significance mentioned in the Bible, Torah, Koran, and Vedas. By photographing people in their traditional ways of life, it reminds us that in our differences we share similar love, hopes and dreams.
Ms. Mossman, a former resident and alumnae of Brooks Institute of
Photography, returns to Santa Barbara to share her timeless images from the Middle East. The show features photographs such as At the East Gate of the Old Souk, from Aleppo, Syria, and Cascading Hills, the poetic landscape of the Dead Sea in Jordan.
