Rep. Lois Capps met this week with Central Coast “green” business leaders to discuss steps the federal government should take toward promoting sustainability oriented enterprises. Participants included energy companies Clipper Wind Power, REC Solar, and Ceres; clothiers Deckers Outdoor Corporation; and builders Dennis Allen Associates and the Towbes Group. Capps called it the first in a series of meetings with green business leaders.

Testifying perhaps to the quantity of lobbyists heading to Sacramento from Santa Barbara, Horizon Air has begun non-stop service between the two locales. The plane to Sacto leaves at 7 a.m., six days a week, arriving before 8:30 a.m.; travelers can be back at the Santa Barbara Airport by 9 p.m.

A fourth Habit restaurant opened next to La Cumbre Plaza, ironically, in the old Kaiser’s Nutrition building. Like the other three South County Habits (formerly Hamburger Habit), it is not part of the national chain but owned personally by Bruce and Brent Reichard, the chain’s founders, who boasted sustainable design features at the building.

Momma’s Boys infused more than $1 million into the area economy before wrapping production here, said Shannon Brooks of the Santa Barbara Conference and Visitors Bureau. The new NBC reality dating show, which filmed in July, spent the bucks on location renting, catering, crew hires, and crew accommodations, among other things.
