The Santa Barbara Fire Department extinguished a Christmas Eve fire at the MarBorg recycling facility just before 9 p.m.
The fire was in a large pile of rubbish inside the facility. Firefighters put out the fire using water and foam and were aided by MarBorg employees, who operated heavy dozer equipment to pull the rubbish apart. It took the cooperative effort 45 minutes to extinguish the fire, which activated the recycling center’s sprinkler system. Smoke was visible throughout the Eastside.
