More often than not, you can tell a lot about a band by its name. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young had all four of those guys onstage on any given night. The Sex Pistols? Well, they were super sexy and kinda violent. And Limp Bizkit—’nough said. In the case of Palm Desert’s Eagles of Death Metal (EoDM), the vision is simple: create a sound that mixes the laidback, fun-loving countrified feel of the Eagles with something a little … louder. Composed primarily of frontman Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes and drummer Josh “Babyduck” Homme (of Queens of the Stone Age fame), EoDM have been rocking out to rapturous crowds since they released Peace, Love, and Death Metal back in ’04. Today, Hughes, Homme, and bandmates Dave “Davey Jo” Catching, Joey “Sexy Mexy” Castillo, and Brian “B.O.C.” O’Connor are touring the globe in support of their third album, 2008’s hard rockin’ Heart On, and hitting downtown Santa Barbara this Wednesday night.

The band’s known for their sexed-up garage rock and illustrious guest players (tattoo maven Kat Von D, The Distillers’ Brody Dalle, and Foo Fighter Dave Grohl have all lent their talents to the project), but promise plenty more than grinding guitars and celebrity sightings in the live sphere. For starters, Hughes lays claim to one of the most exquisite ’staches in rock ’n’ roll history (see above). He’s also one of the most charismatic, out-there characters you could ever hope to catch in concert. Add to that a swanky strut, some serious musical chops, and a vibe Rolling Stone calls pure “scuzz-rock gold,” and dammit if you don’t have a recipe for hard-rock success. EoDM will play an 18+ show at Velvet Jones (423 State St.) on Wednesday, June 3, at 9:30 p.m. For tickets and info, call 965-8676 or visit inticketing.com.
