Getting vaccinations to Santa Barbara County's vulnerable population continues to be the priority for officials dealing with H1N1. Two more vaccine clinics are scheduled for this week, one at Veteran's Hall, 341 Walnut Avenue, in Carpinteria, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 11/14, and the other at the Earl Warren Showgrounds from 3 to 7 p.m. on 11/16. The high-risk groups include pregnant women, children from ages six months to four years, health-care workers, and parents of newborn infants. A majority of the almost 1,000 residents vaccinated at Earl Warren Showgrounds on 11/5 were children under the age of five. Because of an uptick in the number of available vaccinations, officials are extending the age of eligible children to 12.

The County Public Health Department has given roughly 4,500 doses of vaccine in its clinics and has provided private practices with about 15,000 doses. The number of people who have died from the swine flu in the county remains at three, while there are four to five "presumed" deaths related to the illness. Since June 9, the total number of people hospitalized with the flu countywide is 43, including 20 from Santa Barbara. Right now, H1N1 is the primary flu floating throughout the county and usually runs its course in three to five days. Two special education classrooms on the Dos Pueblos High School campus were closed for a week because the students were more vulnerable to the flu, a proactive decision made on the advice of the Public Health Department. The students have since returned to school. The school district is continually monitoring its absentee rates, on the lookout for higher than normal ranges. As with the normal flu, schools are encouraging students with flu-like symptoms to stay home.

This is a media made up story.

Why do they never tell us how many of the new H! flu cases compared to regular flu.

How many kids normally die from the Influenza compared to how many have died now?

    Why is that always missing?

Because the Media makes money from blowing this out of porportion.

Shame on Independent to fall into this trap....let us have balanced statistics.

    rstein has a good point.

We have to remember that in 1976 the government freaked out over a supposed swine flu pandemic and the swine flu vaccines killed more people than the swine flu did.

The vaccine manufacturers have made off with billions of dollars. There are also toxic elements in the vaccines including mercury and squalene.

If you've been keeping up with these stories, you know I posted information last time showing that we actually don't have a shortage of swine flu vaccinations, the shortage is a farce created to spike demand.

The seasonal flu kills tens of thousands of people every year.

If you want to avoid getting any kind of flu the natural way, make sure and get plenty of sun so that your body can create natural vitamin D. If it is cloudy or you are stuck in an office all day, then you can take 2,000 - 5,000 IU of vitamin D each day to supplement that time in the sun. Also make sure you are eating healthy.

Where to begin... It's like a game of name that fallacy.

Please cite your source that indicates more people died in 1976 from the vaccine than from the flu. There was an increase in cases of GBS that year. GBS occurs "naturally" in the population at the rate of about 1 in 100,000, due to the vaccine that rate increased to about 2 in 100,000. About 54 million vaccines were issued that year and there were a few hundred cases of GBS, some of which may be attributed to the vaccine, some of which were certainly not. Every medical treatment has risks and rewards that must be balanced and we have a wealth of evidence that the benefits of vaccination well outweigh any established risk.

Because the "vaccine industry" makes money they are somehow corrupt or conspiring to kill people? Please excuse me for finding that bit of logic humorous.

The toxin gambit, one of my favs. Toxicity is all about dosage, please drink several gallons of water in a short period of time if you'd like to test this hypothesis. The mercury contained in thimerasol is ethyl mercury. The mercury you are exposed to when eating fish is methyl mercury. My first grader can tell me the difference after ten minutes of googling. Thimerosal is only in the multi-dose vials of the vaccine and is used to prevent bacterial growth. If somehow you were to receive every bit of thimerosal in the vial that would amount to 25 micrograms, well below any dosage scientifically established as dangerous.

Vitamin D will not save you from the flu. The only scientifically established way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated.

The media is "hyping" this story to increase the rate of vaccination which will SAVE LIVES.
