Law and Disorder 10-22

The sentencing for Jesse James Hollywood, who appeared before Judge Brian Hill on 10/20, has been continued to 11/10. Hollywood’s attorney, James Blatt, is hopeful that he can uncover and present enough evidence of juror misconduct to successfully file for mistrial. If the judge does not grant the mistrial motion on the continuance date, Hollywood will face life in prison without parole, having been found guilty of murder in July.

An attorney for actor Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, who are facing felony charges for allegedly stiffing the San Ysidro Ranch for $10,000, requested on 10/19 that their voluntary appearance date in court be continued to 10/26. Judge Clifford Anderson granted the continuance. If the two do not appear in court then, the District Attorney’s Office will begin paperwork to have the couple extradited to Santa Barbara to face the charges.

A 24-year-old man died on 10/20 after he was impaled by a piece of rebar at a residential construction site in the 500 block of Via Tranquila in Hope Ranch. Witnesses described seeing the man pouring concrete when he fell off a retaining wall and onto the metal bar. According to officials, responding crews immediately stabilized the victim and transported him to Cottage Hospital, where he later died.
