I’ve just read Matt Kettmann’s article on the transformation of 1490 from a progressive radio station to a Spanish music station. I was a frequent listener and am very upset to have this occur. We needed that station. The people need that station. The point of view of the wealthy elite pretty much runs the minds of the nation.

Those who are well-educated in the humanities may transcend such socialization, and resist conforming to beliefs and emotional responses the elite like us to have. You have to be a critical thinker and look beyond the cultural matrix you find yourself imbedded in. That’s the problem with culture generally. That’s why I’m not an advocate of embracing one’s cultural heritage. I believe in critically evaluating its merit.

I don’t know if you ever listened to 1490, but Thom Hartmann, who was on Monday through Friday, 9-12 a.m., is a wonderful voice for what is good in America. The fact that To replace that with a Spanish music station adds insult to injury. I won’t go into how the illegals have made it difficult for me personally, and for my friends, to make a living here. Legal labor can never compete with illegal labor. And the legalized illegals are hurting us as well because they are just more labor, which we don’t need, and they hire illegals. Legal American workers need protection.—Christine Atwill
