Last week, Westmont professor Paul Willis was officially named the next Santa Barbara poet laureate. Willis, whose work has been published in more than 100 literary journals, will replace current laureate David Starkey and will hold the post until April 2013.

Santa Barbara nonprofit Notes for Notes has joined forces with the Police Activities League (PAL) to open a third MusicBox recording facility at the 1235 Teen Center. The studio was taken over by PAL last year and currently hosts recording and songwriting workshops. Visit for more info.
