Week in Sports and Upcoming Events

High school football moves into league play tonight (Fri., Oct. 14), and the match-up that decided last year’s Channel League championship will take place at Dos Pueblos High’s Scott O’Leary Stadium. The Ventura Cougars will face DP’s Chargers at 7 p.m. The Chargers claimed the 2010 league title with a dramatic 30-27 victory. Ventura is favored to avenge that result. The Cougars won all their pre-league games, while the Chargers are winless.

San Marcos visits Buena in the other Channel League opener, while Santa Barbara High has a bye. Bishop Diego hosts Malibu at La Playa Stadium in the Frontier League, and Carpinteria travels to Fillmore in the Tri-Valley League.

There will be two cross-country meets at Shoreline Park this afternoon, the Dos Pueblos Invitational for prep runners and the SBCC Invitational for community college athletes.

UCSB seeks its fourth consecutive men’s soccer victory tonight at Cal Poly in another tough Big West match. The Mustangs took down the Gauchos on their home field last year.
