Jury selection is expected to begin Monday in the murder trial of Michael Cardenas and brothers Ismael and Miguel Parra, a trio of alleged Eastside gang members who authorities say killed George Ied as he walked on Punta Gorda Street in October 2010. Ied, a native of Syria, was on his way home from work at Mi Fiesta Liquors on Milpas Street before he was beaten unconscious only a block away from his house. Ied was put on life support until he was pronounced dead a few days later. Dozens of witnesses will likely take the stand during what is expected to be a weeks-long trial in Judge Brian Hill’s courtroom.
