What a tragedy.
Shouldn't the story have said alleged drunken driver? And did the District Attorney's office actually investigate the incident and file the charges all in the same day -- a Saturday? It used to be that people were arrested in connection with a crime, which would then be investigated, with charges being either filed or not. Maybe the justice system operates differently now.

Perhaps Wendy is cleaning house, hoping that the new hires will bow down to her Queendom and not go the way of the newsroom, which voted 33-6 for union representation.

Wendy won't sell the News-Press because that would be admitting she made mistakes, and anyone involved with her since her move to Santa Barbara knows she doesn't admit making mistakes.
Right now I bet she's planning some strategy -- lawsuit likely -- accusing the Teamsters and former employees of conspiring to ruin the News-Press.
She has so much money and is so vindictive that many people are afraid of her.
Possibly the smartest person in all of this is Joe Cole, former Wendy associate who was N-P publisher for awhile. He got out and kept his mouth shut.

We need a signal at Cieneguitas and Foothill. Who do we talk to about this.

I toured one of the Willow Creek condos. Was surprised at the lack of kitchen counterspace, areas for kids to play, and wondered how anyone would be able to haul furniture upstairs to the bedrooms without damage.
A visitor to the same unit commented she thought the steep stairs would be unsafe for her children.
My thought at the time was that these places were suitable only as short-term rentals for companies whose employees were in town on business, or college students.
Since then, I've found postings of people looking for roommates for Willow Creek. Looking at the Web site, it appears the units aren't selling well.

Please wait until AFTER the holidays — when there's fewer people and less disruption to the household — to bring home a new family member.
The three local shelters are on Overpass Road in Goleta. They have plenty of pets looking for new homes, and they do temperament testing on the dogs to help determine the right fit.
If you want to know more in advance about a particular breed, visit the places where people and their dogs hang out and ask questions. Some places locally are the University Drive-Tabano Way dog park; Hendry's Beach; and Girsh Park, site of classes for the Goleta Valley Dog Club.

So these Noza folks will profit by selling my identity to the nonprofits willing to pay money for it.
Bleah.

Too bad you couldn't find a different photo to run with this news story. The title of the film, "It Runs in the Family," might be perceived by some readers as a deliberate comment about the Douglas family.

It would be great if this were videotaped and aired on one of the community channels for those of us who can't attend.
I have to work... can't get off.

Don Katich is probably going to be the new public "face" for the paper. He's slick, goodlooking and far better on camera than Arthur von Wiesenberger. When the co-publisher was invited to appear on the Ernie Salomon show, Katich accompanied him. Poor Wiesenberger -- dufus that he is -- told a caller that if the community TV channel on which he was appearing wanted to be listed in the News-Press' television guide, then the channel should buy advertising. And co-publisher Wendy McCaw considers herself a philanthropist? Puleeeeeze!
