So what did SB get out of this? Did Caruso set a date to start demo and have it finished by a set date? Did he set a date to start construction? You know, one guy with a sledgehammer could demo that place in, I don't know, 7-8 years. Don't be surprised if he tries to get a property tax reduction when all that's left is dirt.

Note to Indy:
Using the headline 'State Street Retail Rundown' isn't the best choice of words. It's too close to the truth.

Truly a sad situation . Sentence way to short .
You're forgetting that the County has MUCH deeper pockets than that drunken asshat.

"But some neighbors welcomed the new facility with open arms. Councilmember Dale Francisco and Mayor Helene Schneider both expressed hope that by relocating the detox facility, City Hall could make it easier for Casa Esperanza managers to respond to neighborhood concerns."

This isn't very well written. Are Francisco and Schneider neighbors of the detox facility? Or, are you referring to the Milpas neighbors of Casa Esperanza?

"Subsequent press releases put a $1.5 billion price tag on this scaled-back project, much of which would come from New York hedge fund D.E. Shaw. According to some individuals close to the negotiation process, Rosenfeld’s sky-high plans have elicited concern from other Century City developers that the proposed new towers could encroach on their views. Rosenfeld’s modified plans are now undergoing environmental review.

Around City Hall—where the fallow Entrada has been a chronic embarrassment, not to mention a significant loss of potential tax revenues—such tales indicate Rosenfeld has the financial wherewithal to get Entrada built. "

Uh, so has construction started in Century City? I don't see how "most of which would come from New York hedge fund" equals having the money in an account. Using other people's money is nice, but look what happens when the "other people" decide not to lend it to you. Is this the same situation the Miramar is in? Very nice guys without their own cash? We've seen this movie before. Anybody remember the Carrilo Retirement Hotel?

I went into their store when it was on Rose Ave. and got a real bad vibe from the son. Didn't he propose to his girlfriend with an ad in the Montecito Journal?
His dad seemed knowledgeable and pleasant. Visited the place on Chapala a few times and really didn't care for the attitude. They had some nice cars, but just another used car lot.

How ironic that the most (nominally) liberal state in the country is the one in which the working class have the hardest time surviving.

You're assuming that the working class is liberal. They're the ones paying the bills, they're too busy to be liberal, which usually involves transferring $ to others.

It's not fair to blame Wendy for the NP being a 3rd rate paper. I've been here since 1975 and the NP has always been an embarrassment.
She made it worse, and she makes a great target, but let's lose the rose colored glasses and admit the NP has sucked for decades, and now it just sucks a little more.

Wow!
You mean it's not OK to run red lights? Somebody better tell SB drivers because they never got the memo.
Next thing you know they'll pass a law about using a cell phone while driving.
Remember, speed doesn't kill, sudden deceleration does!
