Health care reform included a tax on tanning beds because it quadruples your risk of melanoma and the tax will help offset the huge health care costs associated with it. The same reason why cigarettes are taxed.
It has absolutely nothing to do with taxing the middle class or small business or racism.

Life in prison as a child killer and the attention this case has gotten him will make him a target. I hope someone gives him a little prison justice.

This is why I will continue to boycott the News-Press, as will most of my neighbors and friends.
When is the Independent going to be a full-time, daily paper and put the News-Press out of business?

Well said "The guywritingthis." Hollywood is in a County Jail, pending the outcome of this trial. He is accused of masterminding the cold blooded killing of an innocent 15 year old child. He is facing the death penalty. The mother of this child would not find this a waste of time and money by any means.
I think Judge Hill has moved this trial along as quickly as possible and kept the antics of the attorneys under control. I can't wait to see the smirk wiped off the face of Hollywood when he is found guilty and sentenced to death. Death row up at San Quentin will be a little different from the Santa Barbara County Jail.
As far as the Tea Fire goes. It is well known, that kids in this community have been hanging-out on that property for years. It has been an accident waiting to happen.

I loved the Natalie Cole concert! I thought the mix of music was perfect.
As for the old geezers leaving late. Many of the people that came to that concert were there to see the newly remodeled Granada and to be seen. People were way over dressed. I spent the first few minutes of the concert helping some woman locate her diamond watch that had falling off her wrist. The couple to the left of me had a special card waiting for them on their seats when they arrived - what was that all about? The lady on the other side of me, who wasn't much older than me, plugged her ears because she thought the music was too loud. It all made me laugh! This is Santa Barbara, the place that I have lived for the past 20 years, so you would think that I would be use to it by now. But, I have never seen so many stuffy individuals, who don't know how to have a good time. I consider myself to be upper class on the money chain, but this was embarrassing.

It's about time these out-of-district transfers stop!! Our schools in the Santa Barbara area are so segregated because of this practice. This white flight has got to end! It serves no purpose. Our children will do better in diverse learning environments.
The "underfunded" and so called "underperforming" schools in the SBSD would thrive if these fleeing parents would put their energies and money in to their neighborhood schools.

It does not surprise me that Laura's son would act out in this way. I have listened to her radio program from time to time while driving in my car. (I travel for my work) She has a tendency to blame the victims of rape and child abuse. The women were raped because they "dressed like sluts." I have turned her show off in disgust when she expresses "amazement" that a child kept silent about a sexual abuse, instead of being shocked by what the abuser did. There is little sympathy in her reaction to these types of abuses on women and children. I could see how her son would get a distorted view about these issues because her feelings on these things are distorted and outdated.
