Now we will be saddled with race-quota election districts and the extortion of $600,000 of taxpayer money because of the threat of even larger legal fees.

And here we thought that the US was the "melting pot." This is surely a step backward into the Balkanization of a small city...

(Definition: Balkanization "To divide (a region or body) into smaller mutually hostile states or groups.")

These days, just about all staffs and electeds throughout the state are overpaid, especially when benefits and retirement plans are factored in. Our county is no better than the rest and they all could use a dose of private-sector reality. But then again, the taxpayers' pockets are deep, right?

So now we are back to ethnic quotas. That's a major step backward.

As many have pointed out here, the reason that there aren't more Latino representatives on the council is the quality of Latino candidates just hasn't been there. Cruzito Cruz, Megan Alley, ??? really!?

And BTW my wife is Latina and she didn't vote for any of them either.

The County pays big bucks for a CEO to run the County. The Supervisors aren't the "executives" that run the County. They are more like the Board of Directors of a company that provides the strategic direction to the CEO to execute. Members of boards of directors aren't paid huge salaries for "running the company" which is done by the CEO. The County would probably be better off if the Supervisors had a lot less day-to-day involvement in running the County; and the CEO would probably like that too.

The salary comparison to other counties, cities, etc. is a game that is played at all levels of government and by the unions. When any entity ekes out a slightly higher pay scale, the others use that as a reason to raise their own and so on up the ladder. Unless we go back to part-time politicians in positions like County Supervisors, State Legislature, etc. this process will not end.

Maybe the reason the City doesn't have more Hispanic members on the Council is the people like Cruz representing them.

Can you imagine Cruz being on the Council and setting the strategy for the City? He can't even deal with is own attorney on his own self-initiated law suit.

His performance says more about why there are no more Hispanics on the Council than words ever could.............

Although I was against the decision for us to go into Iraq, the facts are that, in spite of your accusation, there were WMDs found there. See this press release for example:

So does this constitute another "conflation" on your part? Just wondering....

If Michael Brown had been successful in his effort to get the cop's gun and killed the cop, would that event even been mentioned by the media, Obama, Holder, Sharpton, Jackson, etc, etc? I think we all know the answer to that.

It certainly appears to me that this entire incident is being fueled by race-baiters to keep our country divided over these issues.

In the recent incidents where cops killed a black man, one fact seems to be intentionally ignored by the race-baiters and demonstrators.

That is that both of the black men that were killed were engaged in criminal acts. If they hadn't chosen those actions they wouldn't have ended up as they did. And even further they made choices that made a bad situation worse; both resisted the cop when confronted. Another really bad choice.

I think there have been plenty of questionable acts by various cops over the years but these cases weren't among them.

You quote data showing that off Golden Gate Park sea level increased eight inches in the past century but only five inches in 80 years off La Jolla. I'm not a sea level scientist but I learned in school many years ago that water seeks level.

So how can it be that the sea rose 3 inches more in San Fran than it did in San Diego?

Or are we to interpret this to mean that the sea actually dropped 3 inches in 20 years a century ago? If the ocean dropped 3 inches, how does this fit the global warming model that has lead us to blue lines, etc.?

Or does it mean the data isn't reliable?

Carrying ex-military pistols and rifles is one thing but an MRAP vehicle!? MRAPS are designed to withstand heavy arms fire and bombs blowing up under them in a combat zone. In what possible scenario can the Sheriff think that the citizens of Santa Barbara County will be burying IEDs on the streets of the County?
