Mimosa's "small plates" menu is a thing of delight! I'm torn between telling everyone I know about it - and keeping the secret to myself so I don't end up standing in line.

Pope - I agree 100% with your added rule (it's one I follow)!
I'd like to add my own suggestion, too - runners might want to avoid running on the one leash-free beach in town...? I'm always surprised to see joggers on the dog beach, when I know there are a number of other beaches that are likely safer and less crowded.

And one note to the original article author - Lisa, I'd love to see you do an article about proper dog-approach etiquette for the average person on the street. I've got a shy dog and spend an awful lot of energy shielding people from my dog and vice versa - they don't seem to understand that it's not OK to just walk right up and throw a hand on top of her head. We've avoided a bad situation thus far because I'm vigilant about it, but I get a lot of nasty comments from people when I "won't let them pet my dog"!!!!

Having had the good fortune to stay 3 nights in one of these brand new rooms the week of the Jesusita Fire, I can say that not a word of this article is hype. The rooms were awesome - clean, comfy, better than MANY $150-200 hotel rooms I've stayed in across the U.S. Neat modern IKEA-like styling :)
Add to that the friendliness of the staff (also becoming a rarity these days - why?) and the fact that they welcomed our Lab mix as warmly as they did us - I was pretty wowed.

I, too, hope the prices remain "Motel 6 low", because I'll be sending every out of town friend and relative there.

Nope, this is not a paid endorsement either, just someone who was really really grateful to have a comfortable home at a rough time.

WHAT?!?!
Amazing... you better believe I'll be contacting my elected officials about this; I urge everyone else to do the same! I wish we weren't finding this out the hard way.
