Well said, Holly. I so often disagree with you but in this case you are right on target.

Hey, that's my jam! I took this class too, and have to agree, it was worth every penny and every second. I've already canned two batches of berries and made pickles since then, and can't wait to have a full pantry this winter.

Wow, is there really "competition" between marine mammal rescue centers? It seems to me that the point is to get the animals the help they need, and not to worry about jurisdictions, territories, top billing, or whatever the comment(s) above are about.
Then again, I'm not directly involved; perhaps there are politics at play I'm unaware of?

Thanks for this article! I was at a complete loss as to why my 7 year old daughter's Anthem policy would increase 40% when she hasn't even had to use it this year. Hooray for sticking it to the healthy folks!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, "ah", but horses are shipped OUT of California and many other states, across the border to Mexico and Canada, every single day, where they are slaughtered for their meat. Awful but true. Five minutes of your time on google would have shown you that this is a known and documented fact.
These horses are indeed in danger - as are many other horses whose owners have lost their ranches due to foreclosure, or are unemployed, or have otherwise become unable to care for them. However, this case is a little more awful than the rest because many of us in the local community have had to put up with Peters' arrogance and his hack-job "remodel" of El Cap... for the horses to suffer at the end of it all is one final insult too many.
I hope local ranch owners are able to find space for these horses in the week(s) to come. I'm doing what I can... are you?

Mimosa's "small plates" menu is a thing of delight! I'm torn between telling everyone I know about it - and keeping the secret to myself so I don't end up standing in line.

Pope - I agree 100% with your added rule (it's one I follow)!I'd like to add my own suggestion, too - runners might want to avoid running on the one leash-free beach in town...? I'm always surprised to see joggers on the dog beach, when I know there are a number of other beaches that are likely safer and less crowded.
And one note to the original article author - Lisa, I'd love to see you do an article about proper dog-approach etiquette for the average person on the street. I've got a shy dog and spend an awful lot of energy shielding people from my dog and vice versa - they don't seem to understand that it's not OK to just walk right up and throw a hand on top of her head. We've avoided a bad situation thus far because I'm vigilant about it, but I get a lot of nasty comments from people when I "won't let them pet my dog"!!!!

Having had the good fortune to stay 3 nights in one of these brand new rooms the week of the Jesusita Fire, I can say that not a word of this article is hype. The rooms were awesome - clean, comfy, better than MANY $150-200 hotel rooms I've stayed in across the U.S. Neat modern IKEA-like styling :)Add to that the friendliness of the staff (also becoming a rarity these days - why?) and the fact that they welcomed our Lab mix as warmly as they did us - I was pretty wowed.
I, too, hope the prices remain "Motel 6 low", because I'll be sending every out of town friend and relative there.
Nope, this is not a paid endorsement either, just someone who was really really grateful to have a comfortable home at a rough time.

WHAT?!?!Amazing... you better believe I'll be contacting my elected officials about this; I urge everyone else to do the same! I wish we weren't finding this out the hard way.
