Is a pile of floating plastic the size of Great Britain annoying? How about elevated mercury levels in nearly all of the fish we consume?
If you think conservation, and people who promote it are annoying, consider the consequences of building a wall around yourself and continuing with business as usual. They are far worse. I need not name them here.
Besides, how can you belittle someone who simply stands for good cause? He's not running around criticizing people, he's shedding light on solutions that are already there, he just happens to have a big light, because he's famous. He should be commended for doing so. Just because information is on the internet does not mean people are going to read it, let alone adopt it. Oh and since all the organizations he endorses (his included) are non-profit, he must be doing it for personal gain and to sell more records? According to you he might sell fewer records because of such an 'annoying' message. Donating all that money to charity is shameless self promotion too?
He could totally save energy by not going on tour. But what if he spreads this message to 100,000 people, and they all stopped using disposable plastic bags... or disposable plastic anything for that matter? What if that floating pile of plastic in the south pacific stopped getting bigger?
You see what you want to, but your criticisms above are an embarrassment. You don't have to like his music, but go tell your kids and grandkids that you didn't want to drive less, use less disposable plastic, and eat food grown in a sustainable way because Jack Johnson and all the other people promoting sustainable living were annoying you. Because hey, you were born a certain skin color, a certain sex, and a non-believer in conservation, and you couldn't do a thing about that.
The only thing you said that has any weight is their use of biodiesel. Depending on where it came from, it may have contributed to some de-greening, but not necessarily.
I'm not sure why you are so defensive toward a cause and a person so obviously genuine, but, hey, I'm sorry for whatever happened to you to make you feel this way. I feel good knowing he's out there... which reminds me...
"The Dude abides. I don't know about you but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there..."
