>2 weeks worth of war covers Californias budget shortfall.
Sure thing. But don't expect any corporate-owned politician (Republican OR Democratic) to tell us that.

> Rep. Lois Capps said, “The tipping point came when the Arab nations agreed and asked that we and the U.N. enter into the no-fly zone.”
Would that be the same Arab nations currently mowing down demonstrators in their own streets?
As with Iraq, US and European concern for human rights in Libya is clearly a fig leaf for imperialist intervention in yet another oil-rich country.

The Goleta store always seemed to have a decent line at the sales counter.
I'm assuming the store was doing well enough to meet payroll and operating costs, but not generating sufficient profit for the taste of the corporate overlords.
Would anybody have any inside information on this?

Can somebody please explain:
If GATE classes are eliminated for the first two years of high school, and for junior high school as a whole, what exactly is going to take their place?
On KEYT last night, representatives from the school district seemed to imply that changing 'GATE' to 'Honors' was mostly just a name change. But it doesn't seem like this is the whole story.
When I first heard this topic reported, the implication was that there were existing Honors classes that GATE was going to be merged with. But at least at Goleta Valley Jr. High and at DP, there are no current Honors classes.
So is this just a name change, or is it something else?
Clarification would be much appreciated.

Yes, Capps should be protested, but not over some goonie twaddle regarding "illegal aliens".
Capps deserves condemnation for apparently giving her assent to the UC paycuts ('Yudof and the Regents "have to do what they have to do."', as quoted the article.).
This fits neatly with the economic policies of Obama and the national Democrats: bailouts and bonuses for the rich, layoffs and paycuts for the rest of us.
On a related note, I have sent Lois at least four emails over the past several months inquiring as to her stance on single payer (medicare-for-all) health insurance, and have yet to receive a response. My assumption is that she is on the same page with Obama and the Democratic leadership on this as well (billions for the insurance companies, restricted non-universal coverage for working people).
My understanding also is that Lois is a supporter of the war in Afghanistan, an immoral colonial enterprise that is burning up money urgently needed here at home.
