Great piece. Wendy McCaw and her henchmen have destroyed what used to be a great news paper. I now refer to the News Press as the "sNews dePress."

Proposition 8 is a sham. I hope it gets overturned. The government needs to get its nose out of the bedroom!

For me, science trumps religion every time. As far as bringing a fetus to term, that decision lies with the mother and her significant other. Most definitely that decision does not lie with anti-abortionists and even politicians! They need to butt out! I am unrepentant in that belief. Sorry if right-to-lifers disagree. Too bad for them.

Sevendolphins, oops, you're right! Just imagine my red little face. Anyway, I would think the opposite of what you say. I'd put my money on mental health providing the therapists knew what they are doing. If the therapists are incompetent, then I'd put my money on the barrier. But perhaps you're right. I haven't seen the studies, so I am going on "educated speculation." Have a most excellent day!

Not only the Cold Springs Bridge, sevendolphins, but also the Golden Gate Bridge (in a different county I know). Improve mental health services but don't build something that won't work--if some one is determine to commit suicide he/she will--and be an eyesore to boot.

Only a woman, and perhaps her significant other should have the say in whether or not they have their baby. Everyone else should butt out.
Also, if the anti-abortionists are so against abortion, then don' have one. Let those who believe that abortion is the right decision for their families have them without interference. Gee, what a concept!

That was a very nice article about Scott O'Leary. I had Coach O'Leary as a PE instructor during my four years at Dos Pueblos High School. He was a great guy and I had the highest respect for him. I am sorry that he has passed away. I had not realized that.

Whole Foods is OK I guess, but here in Reno, I rarely go there. WF has had store here for about a year now, and in that time I've only been there two or three times. Why? Too expensive! I do most of my shopping at Trader Joe's. The food is great and the price is right. I can't really say that the price is "right" at Whole Foods.

I remember when she took over the News Press back in the mid 1990s. I thought of her as a great savior of the paper because it was going through some tough times in those days. I remember her saying that she was going to leave the news the news professionals. Then the story came out that she wanted her own private beach. At Hope Ranch? Anyway, I thought she was being unreasonable. Then a year or two later--I forget when--came all these stories about how her employees were upset over pay disputes and other grievances. That's when I decided that she had really lost it. And its just gotten worse since then.
