Andrew Cohen: "...how did something come from nothing? But it did. Absolute zero is the foundation of everything that is."
Sri Aurobindo: 'Nothing can arise from Nothing. Asat, nothingness, is a creation of our mind; where it cannot see or conceive, where its object is something beyond its grasp, too much beyond to give even the sense of a vague intangibility, then it cries out, "Here there is nothing." Out of its own incapacity it has created the conception of a Zero. But what in truth is this zero? It is an incalculable Infinite. Our sense by its incapacity has invented darkness. In truth there is nothing but Light, only it is a power of light either above or below our poor human vision's limited range. For do not imagine that light is created by the Suns. The Suns are only physical concentrations of Light, but the splendour they concentrate for us is self-born and everywhere. God is everywhere and wherever God is, there is Light. Jnanam chaitanyam jyotir Brahma.' -- Essays Divine and Human
It is great that people are realizing that transcendent spiritual pursuits leave WAY too much out of the picture. Still Cohen's understanding of Sri Aurobindo's teaching and of our evolutionary journey leaves way too much out of the picture as well. Vedic Seers understood the evolutionary journey as a macrocosmic cycle which was in turn expressed in microcosm, as the 12 months of the Earth's year, the 24 hours of the day, and the 12 ages of the Precession of the Equinoxes ... i.e. evolution was mapped and tracked in terms of real material dynamics, real measures (not made up by the human mind). Cohen and many modern spiritual teachers concerned with Integral Philosophy and Evolutionary spirituality and dynamics have yet to develop in their own evolutionary development, an appreciation for this profound connection between the Earth's 360 degree journeys in time and the soul's (individual and collective) development it time. The VISION of such modern day visionaries needs to go deeper and higher. -- Lori Tompkins
