Winemakers like food too; Travel Channel sightings

Thu Feb 09, 2006 | 12:43pm

Carina Cellars’ yearly winemaker dinner is just around the
corner. Literally. On February 24, Chef Patrick Rand of Patrick’s
Side Street Café will present a menu expertly paired with several
Carina wines. The event begins with a reception at the Carina
tasting room, just up the street from Patrick’s. Fri., Feb. 24:
reception, 5 p.m., Carina Cellars, 2900 Grand Ave., Los Olivos,
688-2459; dinner, 6 p.m., Patrick’s Side Street Café, 2375 Alamo
Pintado Rd., Los Olivos, 686-4004; visit carinacellars.com for more
information.

Two recent episodes of the Travel Channel’s Taste of America
highlighted some of our favorite culinary traditions. The Makela
family’s Santa Barbara Olive Co. orchard (one of the oldest in the
country, as it turns out) and Solvang’s famed ableskivers had their
moment in the spotlight as host Mark DeCarlo couldn’t seem to get
enough of us. Santa Barbara Olive Co., 562-1456, sbolive.com; Taste
of America airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on The Travel Channel,
travel.discovery.com.
