Two more contenders entered the race to replace District
Attorney Tom Sneddon, retiring in June after 24 years. Doug Hayes
and Gary Dunlap filed at the deadline to face Christie Stanley,
Sneddon’s assistant DA in the North County. Dunlap, a flamboyant
Solvang businessman and attorney, was acquitted in 2002 of multiple
felony charges including perjury and witness intimidation brought
against him by Sneddon’s office; he currently has a federal lawsuit
pending against Sneddon and Stanley for malicious prosecution.
Hayes is a former deputy DA and defense attorney from Santa Barbara
with more than 30 years experience.
