After nearly two-and-a-half hours of battling with the rod and
reel, a woman from Rancho Palos Verdes caught a record-breaking
shark off Anacapa Island last week. Marilyn Stephens was
participating in the 11th Annual Mako Shark Tournament out of the
Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club in Ventura when she landed the
biggest mako ever hooked in California waters. Stephens donated her
catch – which weighed in at a whopping 1,059 pounds – to the
Ventura County Rescue Mission.
