Green Building

As the burning of fossil fuels warms the earth’s temperature and
humans continue rapidly depleting global petroleum and natural gas
reserves, we have found ourselves at a crossroads. Santa Barbara’s
Sustainability Project is doing its part to bring such issues to
light, and to examine the role that the architecture and building
communities will play in creating true change. On September 26, The
Sustainability Project will host Edward Mazria, an internationally
recognized architect and author of The Passive Solar Energy
Book
, who will speak on the subject; a panel of local experts
will then discuss how to apply Mazria’s concepts in Santa Barbara.
For info, call 966-3355 or visit sustainabilityproject.org. On Saturday, October 7,
Habitat for Humanity will host its first Tour of Green Homes in
Santa Barbara and Montecito; the homes will be open to the public
between 10am and 4pm. Tickets are $25; for info, call 692-2226 or
visit sbhabitat.org.
