While the internet and new media have revolutionized the way we receive information, these new resources have also provoked debate and concern over the possible isolation of technology users from society. At a UCSB affiliate’s town forum on April 17, Jennifer Earl, UCSB associate professor of sociology and director of the University’s Center for Information Technology and Society, will examine the internet and new media’s impact on social interaction. Her talk, titled “Social Implications of the Internet and New Media: Understanding How People and Communities Relate to New Technologies,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 21 E. Constance Ave. Admission is $8 for UCSB affiliates and $10 for others.
