UCSB Admits 22,168 Potential Freshmen

The UCSB department of admissions announced today that it has offered 22,168 high school students a place at the university this fall for their freshman year of college. These potential Gauchos represent the best of a pool of 40,912 applicants. The accepted students have a mean grade point average of 3.98 – up a full point from last year’s group. Also, 47.3 percent identified themselves as belonging to a racial or ethnic minority group – also up from 47.1 last year. This percentage includes 67 more African-American students as last year and 3,773 students identifying as Chicano or Latino – 317 more than last year.

Applications from 7,896 transfer students are still being reviewed.
